MIMITABEYA;Sweet Dreamies from Mimi

MIMITABEYA is my thesis installation for the Senior Undergraduate Exhibiton at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Over the last 4 years living in chicago i’ve created an artistic persona for myself online and irl; one that is colorful, maximalistic, humorous, filled with motifs of cats, rabbits and anime girls, all while struggling to have a stable sense of identity both as an artist and in my personal relationships. I wanted to make a visually definitive “MIMI” corner that also captures all of the typical visual elements of my work while highlighting the underlying crudeness and emotional instability that follows me around every day. only so many funny hats and cute accessories can cover up anhedonia and an untreated personality disorder.
